"when i was your age"

you wanna know what's on my mind lately? it's driving me bonkers! when people say (around and/or to tanner)something to the effect "you know, when i was your age, if i ever talked to my parents like that, i'd get a whoppin'/spankin' "

all i wanna do is say: oh yeah, and what do you think spanking proves? that your parent was the boss? did the spanking make you stop talking that way every time?

i can count on one hand the number of times i've spanked tanner. it is used as an extreme last resort and i hate doing it. but it really drives me bonkers when people say this around tanner. like we should be spanking him. we have decided NOT to spank our child(ren) and choose to warn, or re-direct, or send him to his room if it gets really bad. i was spanked as a child, and i'll tell 'ya, it didn't do that much good because i was still bad. i even knew when i was getting a spanking and i'd go and lay on my bed on my stomach, waiting for my mom (my dad didn't usually spank us, although i remember a couple times he did). clearly spanking didn't work for me.

i certainly don't judge those who choose to use that method of discipline, but matt and i have made the personal choice not to use that unless we feel like the situation needs it. i realize that everyone has their opinions about this, but this is just mine and i just needed to get it off my chest *sigh* we can usually get tanner to stop the back talking with other methods and so that's what works for us.

and for this reason, i NEED to do a happy post

going to head smashed in buffalo jump for the first time today. it was really fun and i'm glad i got to finally enjoy it

matt and tanenr being home. i can't even begin to tell you how stinkin' bored i was while they were away. i actually finished the book "The Help" in one afternoon. i was about 200 pages in and read the rest of it. it's different being alone at home as opposed to going somewhere away.
