Interesting...

I came across THIS article and found it interesting because it's a cultural thing not a scriptural thing. What are your thoughts?

Personally? I like a GQ man. Totally without any facial hair. They just look smarter, cleaner, etc. That's just my opinion.

Spiritually? "Follow the prophet". I look to the leaders for spiritual guidance. They don't wear facial hair. Then neither do my boys.

And there have been memos sent to the Bishoprics and to the Temple President and workers regarding NO facial hair.

That's good enough for me. ; D

Some say that Jesus wore a beard.

I say that things change with time due to the ways of the world forcing a "certain look" or "word" to mean something different than it did long ago.

Thank goodness for modern revelation and the constant council we get as time goes by. Change is sometimes necessary to show the rest of the world that we are not OF the world.

Just my two cents worth.

But with that being said, I think it's totally acceptable for those who grow beards to portray someone who DID have a beard and were recognized in that fashion of the day. Such as old time prophets, or pioneers, or even Jesus Christ himself.

I remember one year for Pioneer day, our entire ward of men and young men grew beards right after Christmas, so that they could have a full beard by the time July came around for a Pioneer production they were doing. It was actually gross AND comical.

Some men had to keep shaving it off and start all over again, because it grew that fast and they felt it made things messy while eating. And then there were others like my dad.......who hardly even HAD any beard even after attempting to grow one for that many months, and still getting nothing. Lol! Some guys are lucky they don't have to shave as often as my husband does. He now is down to shaving twice a day to get that clean look.

But I like it. ; )

The Pharisees paid a great deal of attention to outward ordinances and actions that would make them appear righteous, but they were not as concerned with actually being righteous in their hearts. For this Jesus referred to them as hypocrites.

"Church leaders, recognizing that fashions go in cycles, are sensitive to the rich cultural diversity within the Church. For example, they have recently held that clean, neatly trimmed and managed beards and long hair for men—as well as certain other fashions that to some might seem “trendy”—are acceptable for the temple, provided they are not inherently offensive or vulgar" (Feb 1993 Ensign, p29).

If it is good enough for the Temple, it's good enough for everywhere else. I expect when the Savior returns, he will have a beard.
